Welcome to Mind-Bet-Wix(t)

One of the first impulses you might have had when you saw this blog was perhaps wanting to ask a question. Maybe something on the lines of "Why does this blog have such a weird name?". Well, let me answer this question right away and tell you simultaneously something about me.

My mind has been feeling overwhelmed by many thoughts and opinions I have had over the last couple of years concerning certain trends and personal choices people and I have fallen prey to. Ideas have come and gone, and I have never been able to consistently place them somewhere. This blog is my try in capturing these thoughts that linger in between (betwixt) the folds of my brain. They have tried to come out on several occasions before- mind you I have been trying to use a journal to get some peace and not harass the world with this. But they are still shouting at me on a regular basis, which is why I will attempt to put them as blatantly as possible into the world, in the hope she might swallow them, digest and maybe let something grow out of it. After all, I really do not like to waste things, especially not thoughts.

Secondly, I am a bit of a language nerd, and this is why I have chosen a very old-fashioned expression. “Betwixt” means “between” and comes from the Old English word betwēox. Furthermore, it is not only my thoughts that linger around in a space in-between. The expression of them in language also moves back and forth from Englich (my third language) and German (my mother tongue). This symptom is further enhanced by the fact that I also recently moved from the place I grew up in Switzerland to Austria, the land of my mother’s family but basically a foreign country for me. Hence, “betwixed and between” is another way of describing my personality and current situation of often being indecisive and in a middle position, sometimes being neither fish nor fowl (but more on that on a different post). This is something I would like to change (among other things) with this blog. I strongly believe that honesty and unabstracted expression is a universal value that has become more and more disfigured and abused today. Plus, I cannot always bother my students with these types of "fun facts". So, I'll do it on the internet instead, where readers have the choice if they want to continue reading or not (unlike (my) students).

Finally, it is not only thoughts and opinions I want to narcissistically spread to admiringly observe myself in this echo chamber of thoughts. I simply need an outlet for all this creative energy I have that has no other way to go. My mission here is to create a small space for creative thought without any material or commercial gain involved. I don't want any attention really. I simply want a place where I can freely express, but also can be hold accountable by others and maybe get some new insights along the way. So, please feel free to comment and reach out if you like or dislike what I do here. I welcome constructive feedback and I am very curious to see if there will be any readers at all that might have similar opinions.
